Harvest Season With Cat Chen

Cat Chen founded Dulan Wine with a desire to foster deep connections — strong ties to the people, places, and moments that inspire her. It’s this ethos, a commitment to building a beautiful life with intention, that suffuses everything Cat touches. From the sunny interiors of her new home in Los Angeles, to her work, to her wardrobe. Read on as Cat shares her thoughts on new beginnings, personal style, and the keys to the perfect dinner party, self styled in favorites from our fall collection.

On A New Home & New Beginnings

‘"There’s something so beautiful and expansive about a fresh start. There’s nothing quite like a blank slate and creating from scratch. My space and home mean everything to me — I can’t wait to spend the next few months creating a sanctuary, safe place. A place so comfortable and cozy, that I never want to leave or friends feel so at home when they visit. I’m in a completely new part of town too, so it almost feels like I moved cities. I’m further from the LA scene, closer to nature, and there’s so much to explore. I couldn’t be happier!"

On Interior Design With Intention

"I got to witness and live the Amber Lewis magic — what a gift! Amber always taught us that homes are meant to be lived in and I couldn’t agree more. I am not precious about my things. If you break the glass or spill the wine, I just don’t find it to be a big deal. The amount of red wine that has been spilled on my white living room rug is comical. It (mostly) comes out!

"I’m also the person who will slowly acquire pieces to fill a home. I’ve found most of my favorite pieces while treasure hunting and there’s always a story to tell."

On Founding Dulan Wine

"I’ve always wanted to start my own company and build a brand. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the most brilliant minds who have built empires — and working alongside them have been the greatest gift and source of inspiration."

On Her Mission For Connection

"I’ve become a much more intentional drinker with age. My wines are big and bold. They are sippers, not for the casual chug. My wines are meant to be shared with someone, even better if shared over a meal. They are deep and complex, just like the way I prefer conversations with friends. As I build Dulan, I try to create environments where I think Dulan can cultivate that extra layer of connection."

On Hosting The Perfect Dinner Party

"To be honest, I have a bit of a split personality when it comes to hosting, haha! On one hand, I am a planner. I will grocery shop, prep, set the vibe for days in advance. On the other hand, once the first guest steps in the door, I let things flow naturally. The most important part of a dinner party is having meaningful, connected conversations with my guests, so that’s why I do all the prep beforehand. (I am not good at multitasking). That said, I always have my eye on everyone’s plates + glasses to make sure they are happily fed and quenched :) your glass will never, ever go empty in my house!"

On Getting Dressed

"I also have a split personality when it comes to style! You’ll find me in jeans and a tee most days, and I can go anywhere from classic and tailored to a bit edgy and cool. So, I guess I’m a little bit of everything! My favorite pieces from the Loeffler Randall collection are the boots and heels and the skirts!"
