LOVE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

Martha & Patrick

Held in their happy place, Martha and Patrick's lakeside wedding was everything they'd dreamed — endlessly romantic, backed by breathtaking views the couple couldn't wait to share. Read on for Martha's story behind her perfect day, from a custom-designed dress, a surprise dance routine and her pleated Camellia heels — the sweetest "something blue."

"I’ve always envisaged what I wanted my wedding look to be, but after a while trying on dresses I had almost given up hope finding it. Then I went to Suzanne Neville and they explained I could modify one of their designs. We made some tweaks and the dream look in my head was brought to life! Suzanne Neville did an incredible job with the lace sleeves, high neck collar, keyhole back, buttons and a simple veil.

"The dress was a modern take on what my late Grannie wore to marry my Grandad in 1964. I wore the pearl earrings my Mum wore on her wedding day as my ’something borrowed.’”

"I had thought my 'something blue' would be my sapphire engagement ring, which Patrick designed with my Dad’s cousin. Then I saw the blue Camellia heels and my heart was set on them. They were unbelievably comfortable on the day — even when Patrick and I scaled rocks and streams for photos on an outcrop overlooking the Lake."

"Patrick and I love spending time in the Lake District. The air has a magically clean quality to it and we love going for walks and cycle rides, whatever the weather! It’s our happy place.

"We actually saw Silverholme Manor separately. Patrick cycled there and I was delayed driving due to a road closure. The fact that we were independently obsessed with the view of Lake Windermere made it an easy decision. It was so special to share the view with our favourite people on the day."

"Silverholme Manor is a holiday home so it was a lot of work to arrange all the suppliers and logistics, particularly in a period when we moved cities, house and jobs!

"In the end it was all worth it to have chosen and considered every single detail to make it so personal. It was over in a flash, so we’re grateful to our photographer, Lauren Stacey, and videographer, Waterfall Weddings, for capturing the vibe."

"Our ceremony was at St Michael and All Angels church in Hawkshead. The church is perched on a hill surrounded by the dramatic mountain peaks and the sun was streaming through the stain glass windows. During the ceremony, my sister sang and Patrick’s groomsman accompanied on the guitar, which was very emotional."

"One of my highlights was my Dad and I surprising Patrick and the guests after the first dance by breaking into a dance routine to ‘Staying Alive.’ I’ll never forget Patrick’s face!

"The day after the wedding we hired a steamer boat on Lake Windermere to continue the party. It was a perfect end to the weekend."
