We believe investing in beautifully crafted footwear and handbags is essential to sustainable living. To ensure special pieces are in great condition for years to come, we are always happy to advise on best practices for care. Read on for our guide to keeping your favorite LR silhouettes shining for a lifetime!
Leather & Suede
Our woven leather silhouettes are crafted from buffalo leather, which develops a beautiful patina by deepening in color over time. It is vulnerable to water stains and tonal changes from the sun, and we further recommend it be kept away from lighter fabrics, as vegetable dyes have the potential to transfer.
Many of our leather boots are crafted in the finest Italian vachetta leather. Like buffal leather, this material also takes on a darker shade with wear. Minor tonal changes from sun exposure and/or water marks can usually be buffed out at home with a shoe polish between visits to the cobbler.
We consulted David Mesquita, founder of NYC shoe repair shop, Leather Spa (a Team LR favorite), for his expert tips on taking care of leather boots and shoes.
Preventative Measures
Keeping Suede Like New
On Those Winter Salt Stains
Caring For Patent Leather
Satin
Satin glows for its delicacy, and in turn requires extra care. Do your best to keep your satin pieces from getting wet, and if you accidentally spill water on them, use a dry cloth to gently blot the area to remove excess moisture. Avoid rubbing the area as this can damage the fabric.
Woven Raffia
As with most natural materials, variations in thickness and color are to be expected. Due to the delicate nature of the fiber, normal wear may occur over time. It is recommended that raffia not be exposed to water in order to maintain its appearance.
Rhinestones & Diamanté Mesh
To keep these pieces shining, keep them away from abrasive materials and store them in their dust bags when not in use. Our rhinestones are delicate, and may shatter if dropped or crushed, so treat them gently.
Pleated Lamé & Fabric
Our pleated lamé and other pleated fabrics are delicate. These pieces should be stored out of direct sunlight and kept away from abrasive materials that may snag the fabric. Our signature pleated knots may fray over time due to the beautiful raw edge detail, at may be snipped carefully as needed. Pleated fabric should not be stored in tight spaces to avoid crushing the pleating—our boxes or other sturdy storage boxes are recommended to maintain the integrity of the pleats.
