A DAY IN HER SHOES

Texas Blooms With Leah Pipes Meltzer

For florist Leah Pipes Meltzer, the promise of spring has real, tangible significance — it means sweet peas in full bloom, buckets laden with pretty pastel flowers and twice weekly visits to Cassiopeia Farm for the best of what’s in season. Follow along as Leah takes us through a day spent picking stems for her signature arrangements, self-styled in pieces from our collection.

Twice a week we visit Cassiopeia flower farm to buy our flowers.

This visit we were preparing for a wedding looking for pastel colored flowers for our centerpieces and large focal arrangements.

This farmer and I have a really special relationship where she lets me roam the fields looking for what we call “bits n bobs”

The sweet peas were almost at the end of their bloom cycle. The scent was intoxicating.

Several times a year we do weddings that are using exclusively locally grown flowers. It’s a very intense sourcing process. We worked with four farms to supply enough flowers for this wedding. It requires complete trust from our clients.

I have not stopped wearing these pants and shoes. Comfort, style and workability are essential to my days. As a florist I basically need to dress like I can climb a tree but also walk into a client meeting at a boutique design hotel and book my next big thing!
