BACKYARD BRIDE

Abby & Kevin

When it came time to say “I do,” Abby and Kevin kept it close to home. An intimate ceremony in the couple’s backyard felt perfect, and the rest fell into place — from the dress Abby bought off the rack to the perfect gold latticed shoes to match. Read on for the full story behind her day now.

“We got married at our house. Our yard is packed with fruit trees (lemon, orange, grapefruit, avocado, loquat, persimmon!) and the idea of saying our vows in the middle of the garden just felt right. We love hosting, so it was fun to create a wedding that felt like an elevated version of our everyday life!”

“Priscilla had this slightly 1920s vibe I loved, and the heel height was perfect. After checking in with my most stylish friend Kat (she’s a clothing designer), I knew they were the exact right shoe to finish the look.”

“I am a prop stylist and set designer by trade, but spent many years before as an event designer so the planning part was pretty easy. I kept it simple and thoughtful, but mostly I wanted it to feel like a really good time. We kept the guest list small, served fancy pizzas, and made sure people could dance all night. Honestly, my biggest ‘secret’ is just focusing on what really matters: your love and the people you want around you!”
“The dress was honestly kind of a happy accident. I had just started thinking about what I might wear when my mom came to visit. We were wandering around West Hollywood, popped into Ulla Johnson, and did one quick lap. The dress was hanging there. It was the last one, fit perfectly and gave me exactly the vintage backyard vibe I was hoping for. Done and done.”

“The day had so many special details. All the beautiful florals by my friend Katie of Going Steady Studios, my little sister officiating, and being surrounded by our closest friends and family. Oh, and we had a vintage phone from After the Tone where everyone recorded messages instead of signing a guest book. We had it pressed on vinyl, and listening back has made us both laugh and cry!”
