Marin county marriage

Julie & Mike

A wedding photographer by day, Julie was no stranger to weddings when it came time for her “I do.” She and Mike had a clear vision for their dream day — an intimate ceremony overlooking Tomales Bay, meaningful moments with family and friends and outfits they’d feel their best in, down to Julie’s bow heels. Read on for the bride’s full story now.

"Mike and I live in West Marin, and we really wanted to share our home with our family. The Lodge at Marconi opened around two years ago and the property is just so, so special. Along with the hotel, they also have an A-frame house available to rent, which was perfect because we wanted a backyard wedding type of feel. We had our ceremony in the side yard, overlooking Tomales Bay, and a champagne toast out on the deck. We followed with dinner down the road at Nick's Cove. The hotel was so lovely and accommodating -- they really made our dream come true! "

"My sister originally planned to wear the Mikel heel with her outfit for the wedding. She sent me the link two weeks before the date and I had yet to find shoes. Typical little sister move — I told her how much I loved them and wanted to wear them instead. Thank goodness she was so gracious about it, because I am obsessed! They are modern and feminine and so easy to wear for a girl who doesn't normally love to wear heels! I can't wait to wear them to my next big event."

"I wanted that process of finding my dress to be as painless as possible. I avoided going to a bridal shop. As it turns out, trying on wedding dresses is not my favorite activity. My sister sent me a link to this dress and after a couple months of staring at it online, I was finally able to try it on at their SoHo location with my college best friend. It checked off all the boxes for me -- ornate, unique, and comfortable! I was so sad to take it off at the end of the night. My dry cleaner was also impressed that it didn't have any spills on it!

"I have so many favorite details from the ceremony! We asked my uncle to officiate, as we knew he was the perfect guy for the job, which ended up being true. I loved watching my nieces and nephews walk down the aisle before me. My two-year-old nephew, Finn, fell asleep shortly after the ceremony started. I asked my dear friend Alexis, of Talk Soil to Me, to do the flower arrangements and she absolutely nailed it! I especially loved my bouquet. And then of course, I asked my very talented sister to be our wedding photographer. She took the most beautiful photos and it was truly so special to see the day through her eyes. Nothing can match that."

"I was never the little girl who dreamt of her wedding day, but this easily became the best weekend of my life."

"I am a wedding photographer, so it was really interesting to finally experience what my clients typically go through. I will say, it was hard to think about my own wedding while I'm thinking about everyone else's, but I had amazing help! I think Mike and I really knew what our intentions were and stuck by them. We wanted something intimate (there were 21 of us total), which we thought would make things easier, but there's still tons to think about."

"I was never the little girl who dreamt of her wedding day, but this easily became the best weekend of my life. I think if I were to share anything -- don't strive for perfection. Use "perfect" as a loose term, because even if things are slightly wonky, the day can still feel totally perfect."

"I really only had three intentions for our wedding day and we accomplished them all!"

"1. My father passed away in January 2025. I wanted him to feel present that day. We had a chair for him at the ceremony, I wore his watch, my uncle mentioned him during the ceremony and I included him in my vows, and we had a glass of Johnny Walker (his favorite spirit) there for him during the champagne toast. I knew he was there that day, just not in physical form."

"2. I wanted my nieces and nephews to have the best time ever! They all walked down the aisle before me, which was one of my favorite parts of the ceremony. I gave them disposable cameras to document the day, and then we danced back at the a-frame until bedtime!"

"3. I wanted to wear a cool outfit! I definitely had a vision for the look, but had no idea how it would all come together. Along with my dad's watch, I wore pearl earrings from Odette. The whole thing somehow came together perfectly...and veryyy last minute! Maybe don't take that advice from me :)"
